Why We Use Purchasing Power Parity Pricing for Developer Ads — And How It Works

A developer in Mumbai and a developer in Manhattan use the same VS Code. They run the same Claude Code. They see the same thinking spinner. But their purchasing power is wildly different — and a single global price for developer ads would either exclude Indian advertisers or undervalue Indian developers' attention.

WaitJI AI solves this with purchasing power parity (PPP) pricing.

What is PPP pricing?

Purchasing Power Parity is an economic theory that adjusts prices across countries to reflect the real purchasing power of local currency. The classic example is the Big Mac Index: a Big Mac costs $5.69 in the US and ₹220 in India. At the nominal exchange rate, ₹220 ≈ $2.60 — but in terms of what that money buys locally, they're equivalent.

WaitJI AI applies the same logic to developer ad pricing. Spotlight ads cost ₹800/1K in India and $12/1K in the US. At the nominal exchange rate of ₹84/$, that's $9.50 for the Indian price vs $12 for the US price — a 21% discount reflecting India's lower cost of living.

The pricing table

All prices are charged in INR via Razorpay, with local currency shown for advertiser reference:

Why this matters for advertisers

A US-based SaaS company advertising on WaitJI AI can reach Indian developers at $12/1K — less than half the cost of reaching developers on LinkedIn ($30–50 CPM for developer targeting) with significantly higher attention quality.

An Indian coding bootcamp can reach developers at ₹800/1K — affordable for a small startup with a ₹50,000 marketing budget, whereas LinkedIn CPMs would exhaust that budget in a single campaign.

Why this matters for developers

Regardless of which country the advertiser targets, developers always earn 65% of the INR-equivalent price. An Indian developer earns ₹520/1K from an India-targeted Spotlight campaign and also ₹520/1K from a US-targeted Spotlight campaign (₹0.52 per impression in both cases — the higher US price is absorbed into WaitJI AI's margin for serving international traffic).

Developers never earn less because an advertiser targets a different geography. The 65% developer share applies to the INR-equivalent regardless of campaign origin.
