India has 5.8 million software developers as of 2026 — the second-largest developer population in the world, behind only the United States. By 2030, that number is projected to exceed 10 million.
Almost none of them are monetising their idle time.
In the US and Europe, developers have access to a rich ecosystem of passive income tools: GitHub Sponsors, dev.to monetisation, newsletter sponsorships, YouTube ad revenue, and affiliate programs with global payouts. Indian developers technically have access to most of these — but the economics rarely work.
The minimum payout thresholds are too high. PayPal transfers to Indian bank accounts are slow and expensive. Stripe payouts are unavailable for individual Indians without a business entity. The result: Indian developers earn global knowledge and produce global-quality code, but they cannot access the same passive income channels that their counterparts in the US take for granted.
UPI processed over 18 billion transactions in March 2026, with a total value of ₹24 lakh crore. More importantly for WaitJI AI: UPI transactions cost essentially nothing. A ₹0.52 payout to a developer UPI ID costs QivaLabs LLP the same as a ₹52,000 payout — near zero.
UPI makes micropayments to developers financially viable for the first time. Without UPI, earning ₹0.52 per impression would be economically impossible — the transaction fee alone would exceed the payout.
Claude Code adoption in India accelerated dramatically in early 2026. Anthropic's aggressive pricing for Indian developers — combined with Claude Code's genuine usefulness for backend and full-stack development — created a large, growing population of daily Claude Code users in Indian tech hubs.
These developers were already generating idle time — pauses in their workflow while Claude Code processed their prompts. WaitJI AI is the first product to convert that idle time into income.
Since launching on June 25, 2026, the most surprising finding has been how quickly developers reach the ₹100 withdrawal threshold. The average developer on WaitJI AI reaches ₹100 within 8–12 days of installing the extension — faster than we initially projected. Many withdraw immediately and then reinvest their trust by keeping the extension running long-term.
The second surprise: referrals. The 10% lifetime referral program has been our highest-ROI growth channel. Developers who earn real money are natural advocates — they share their referral links in Discord servers, Twitter threads, and WhatsApp groups without any prompting from us.
WaitJI AI is India-first, but not India-only. The architecture supports developers globally — international UPI-equivalent payouts (Wise, Stripe) are on our roadmap for Q4 2026. The core insight generalises: wherever AI coding tools create thinking pauses, there is an opportunity to convert developer attention into income.
